BMW is rolling out significant updates to its electric vehicle lineup, as the 2026 models aim to enhance driving range and technological features.
The 2026 iX, which now boasts an impressive EPA-estimated range of up to 364 miles, demonstrates a 7% increase from the 340 miles initially projected.
This advancement is attributed largely to a new, more efficient silicon carbide (SiC) inverter that reduces energy consumption, thereby extending the range. Notably, the previous 2025 model was rated at 309 miles, highlighting the substantial leap in efficiency.
2026 iX Achieves Impressive 364-Mile Range Thanks to New Technology
In addition to the iX, the BMW i5 offerings are also upgraded. The i5 eDrive40 features a range of up to 310 miles, compared to 295 miles in its predecessor, while the i5 xDrive40 sees an increase to 278 miles from 266 miles. These enhancements are part of BMW’s continuous commitment to improving their electric vehicle technology and user experience.
The 2026 models also showcase aesthetic upgrades, including a new Frozen Portimao Blue metallic paint option across all Series 5 models, along with fresh Merino leather interior colors such as Dark Violet/Atlas Grey and Taupe/Atlas Grey.
Noteworthy is the introduction of the entry-level xDrive45 model, priced at $75,150—$12,100 less than prior models, making BMW’s electric offerings more accessible to a broader audience.
As part of its tech advancements, the 2026 iX is the first to feature BMW’s new Curved Display OS, integrating video streaming and in-car gaming capabilities. This innovative approach to infotainment positions BMW as a competitive player in the electric SUV market, catering to tech-savvy consumers seeking both luxury and entertainment on the road.
