Blizzard Entertainment has gone through a tumultuous period in the last five years, facing allegations of workplace harassment, significant losses in its flagship games, massive layoffs, and finally, the acquisition by Microsoft.
However, under the leadership of Johanna Fares, president since 2024, the company seems to be on track for a remarkable recovery. According to Fares, Blizzard has managed to stabilize and has ambitious plans for a steady release schedule starting in 2026.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Fares assured that Blizzard fans can expect at least one or two major releases each year, starting with World of Warcraft: Midnight scheduled for March 3, 2026, followed by ‘Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred’ on April 28 of the same year.
2026, the year of resurrection for Blizzard?
In addition, the company plans to resume BlizzCon, the flagship event of the community, after a two-year hiatus. Fares emphasized the need to build trust among fans, who are eager to know what the future holds for them.
Blizzard intends to focus on its existing intellectual properties, although there are indications that they may explore new horizons in the future.
Fares mentioned that they are in fruitful conversations for adaptations to television and film, with the desire to present something concrete before 2029. Among the franchises they might consider are those that have resonated with players over the years.
Despite the economic uncertainty surrounding the video game industry, titles like ‘Diablo IV’ and ‘Overwatch 2’ are showing solid performance, maintaining their growing user base, while ‘World of Warcraft’ remains a pillar in the market.
Fares optimistically claims that Blizzard’s best days are yet to come, a message that will surely resonate with the gaming community in the months ahead.
