Capcom says a data breach has affected 11,774,247 CAPCOM ID accounts worldwide after the company spotted suspicious activity on October 19, 2026. The company says the breach exposed account metadata, but not user passwords or credit card data, and it stands as one of the biggest gaming account breaches in recent years.
The exposed information includes email addresses, account creation dates, last login times, login counts, and the IP address used during the most recent login.
Capcom also said 43 CAPCOM ID accounts exposed date of birth, gender, country or region, and nickname. Another 196 accounts had their login passwords changed, though Capcom says those passwords were later reset.
The company says it detected the suspicious activity on October 19, 2026, blocked the unauthorized access, set up an internal task force on October 20, and reported the breach to Japanese police and Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission on October 21. Capcom added that games and online features tied to CAPCOM ID were not disrupted. It still hasn’t shared a regional breakdown or said how the intrusion happened.
If you use CAPCOM ID, Capcom’s account system, take this seriously. Watch for phishing emails or messages pretending to be from Capcom, Steam, console platforms, or big series such as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter. Don’t click unverified links or open attachments you weren’t expecting, and keep an eye on your other gaming accounts too if you use the same email address across services.
Capcom says CAPCOM ID services are still online, including features connected to games such as Street Fighter 6, and that it’s contacting affected users as the situation develops. The scale is larger than Capcom’s 2020 ransomware attack, which the company said affected up to 390,000 people.
