Hugh Jackman has stirred excitement among fans by stating that he will never say never to a return as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has fueled speculation about a possible appearance in the movie Avengers: Doomsday. During an interview for the series Actors on Actors, Jackman shared his thoughts on the iconic role and his return to the franchise through Deadpool.
An adamantium return
Initially, Jackman had expressed his desire to retire after the emotional film Logan, considering it the perfect closure for his portrayal of the mutant. However, the actor admitted that he began to reconsider his decision after seeing the success of Deadpool and the dynamic he could have with Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy. “It was hard for me to accept the idea of returning, but in the end, I decided that changing my mind wasn’t such a big deal”, Jackman explained, emphasizing how much he enjoyed the process.
The actor also emphasized that his return was not out of selfishness, but from a genuine desire to explore more facets of the character. “I would only return to play Wolverine if I really want to. The last thing I want to do is act out of pride”, Jackman commented, referring to the attachment he feels towards Wolverine and how his portrayal has evolved over the years.
Despite not confirming a return to Doomsday, his statements have left fans hopeful. With the possible emergence of characters from the X-Men franchise in the upcoming Marvel movie, there is a sense of possibility that Jackman and Wolverine could reunite with the ranks of the heroes of the House of Ideas. It remains to be seen whether these speculations will materialize in the future.
