We all know the potential that ChatGPT, OpenAI’s chatbot that amazed the world just 11 months ago, has. Now, from the responsible company, they announce four new tools that will help users in their day-to-day activities.
1) Users will be able to create their own GPTs
One of the main features, which could prove lucrative for future users, is allowing ChatGPT Plus users to train their own GPTs. These are customized models akin to smartphone applications and can perform specific tasks.
Subsequently, they can be shared through a link or a custom OpenAI store set to launch later this month. The creators of these GPTs, if they choose to sell them, will receive a portion of the profits for their efforts, although the exact amount is still unclear. Programming knowledge is not required either.
2) GPT-4 Turbo will bring significant improvements
GPT-4 remains accessible only to paying Plus users, but the company has just announced GPT-4 Turbo, which will perform better, be faster, and more cost-effective to use. It is trained on data up to April 2023 and can handle a large amount of data in the initial prompt.
To be precise, it has a contextual window of 128 KB, which according to OpenAI is “equivalent to over 300 pages of text in a single prompt.”
Even better, it is three times cheaper for developers: it costs $0.01 for every 1,000 tokens, where a token is half a word. This represents a reduction of $0.03 per 1,000 tokens, making it much more economical in broader data contexts.
3) OpenAI will protect business users accused of copyright infringement.
As committed by Microsoft and Google, OpenAI will protect business users accused of copyright infringement through a program they’ve named Copyright Shield.
“We will now step in and defend our customers, and pay the costs incurred, if they face legal claims of copyright infringement,” the company stated.
There are no details on how or where it will operate, but OpenAI aims to make people feel comfortable using generative AI in professional contexts, and this is a good way to achieve that.
4) The new text-to-speech API from OpenAI generates human-quality voice
OpenAI also announced at the event a new text-to-speech API that developers can leverage at a cost of $0.015 per 1,000 characters sent.
There are six pre-set voices to choose from that sound realistic with different accents, and they will be accessible to anyone using OpenAI’s ChatGPT API.
As OpenAI’s ChatGPT is one of the largest and most popular AI chatbots in the market, the company is starting to feel the pressure from Bing Chat and Google Bard.
