China’s electric vehicle market continues to evolve as the Radar R6, developed by Geely, solidifies its status as the country’s top-selling 100% electric pickup since its launch in 2023.
Now branded as Riddara for international sales, the pickup is expanding its reach to over 50 countries, including Thailand, and is establishing a foothold in key markets such as Saudi Arabia and Brazil.
The Radar R6 is based on Geely’s SEA platform, which also underpins Volvo’s electric minivan, emphasizing a robust and versatile design. It offers three battery options—63 kWh, 86 kWh, and 100 kWh—delivering an impressive range of up to 632 kilometers (392 miles) on a single charge.
Geely’s Ambitious Plans: 30,000 Radar R6 Sales Target by 2025
Moreover, the R6 boasts a remarkable towing capacity of up to 3,000 kg (6,600 lbs) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, positioning it competitively against electric rivals like the Tesla Cybertruck.
With the Cybertruck’s AWD variant clocking a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.1 seconds and range limitations, the Radar R6 presents a compelling alternative for consumers seeking both performance and utility in an electric pickup.
Geely’s ambitious plan aims to capture significant market share, targeting sales of 30,000 units in emerging markets by 2025. The company recently announced a partnership with Capital Smart Motors to increase accessibility in Pakistan.
In addition to the R6, Geely is diversifying its offerings with the release of the King Kong, a more affordable electric truck priced starting at 99,800 yuan ($13,700), which provides a range of up to 605 km (375 miles). As the electric pickup sector heats up globally, the Radar R6’s entry could signal a shift in consumer preferences toward more sustainable and capable truck options.
