Rockstar is much more than GTA. Although it may seem otherwise, their game catalog is extensive and extraordinary. They practically don’t have a bad game, or to be exact, all their games are fascinating. Those that are not GTA or Red Dead Redemption 2 are not a resounding success in terms of critical acclaim and public support capable of sustaining the industry on their own, but they are games that it would be a horror if they were forgotten.
Unfortunately, Rockstar has not treated their own catalog very well. When it comes to considering old games, even when it comes to GTA, they have always done the bare minimum. Although it seems that has recently changed, because they have decided to rescue some of their classic games.
Rockstar has a subscription called GTA+ that provides exclusive advantages for GTA Online and also allowed to play a selection of GTAs, including Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Stories. Recently, Rockstar announced the inclusion in this list of Red Dead Redemption, their excellent cowboy game that shaped the modern classic that is its sequel. And far from stopping there, according to IGN, even more games are coming to the service.
Other games that would be coming soon to GTA+ would be Bully and L.A. Noire, if the people at IGN are correct. Bully is an excellent addition, being a cult classic, on par or even superior to the GTA games for many, which has been somewhat forgotten by Rockstar, even canceling a sequel that was in development. On the other hand, L.A. Noire is a divisive game that aimed to use innovative facial technology to take detective games to the next level, with mixed results.
In any case, what seems evident is that Rockstar wants to make its service more appealing, even for those who don’t play GTA Online. Something for which rescuing some classic and beloved games by fans seems like an excellent idea. Especially because, perhaps, some of those fans will be encouraged to try GTA Online, in a feedback loop that can only benefit the company.
