In that nightclub sequence, Matt Hagen cycles through several identities with his shapeshifting powers, and one of the faces he lands on is very clearly Aaron Paul. Longer hair. Facial hair. No lines, and no credit, either. A lot of people didn’t catch it on first watch. The theory taking hold in fan discussions online is that Paul is playing Jimmy, Matt Hagen’s abusive criminal father, which would give the moment actual story weight instead of leaving it as a throwaway celebrity appearance.
There’s also a growing feeling among fans that Aaron Paul may have originally been meant for more screen time. IMDb lists an actor as “Young Matt Hagen,” which has people thinking flashbacks or some kind of family-history material was shot and later cut. So far, director James Watkins, writer Mike Flanagan, and Aaron Paul haven’t said anything about it. And with no Superman, no Guy Gardner, and no Batman popping in, that silence has turned the cameo into one of the movie’s biggest talking points.
