It has already become clear that Superman is a huge success, but, really, DC is taking a real risk with the next movie in its universe: Supergirl. The highly anticipated film will be released on June 26, 2026, becoming the second installment of the new era of the DC Universe. This new adaptation promises to offer a more powerful and evolved version of Kara Zor-El, a character that has not had the chance to shine on the big screen for several decades.

Up, up, in the sky!

Under the direction of Craig Gillespie, known for his films about complex heroines such as I, Tonya and Cruella, the movie will be based on the acclaimed comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King. This story redefined Supergirl’s role, showing Kara at a low point after her arrival on Earth, without a purpose after being trapped in the Phantom Zone for years, before teaming up with a young alien in a quest for revenge.

Milly Alcock, famous for her role in House of the Dragon, will play Kara Zor-El. The renowned Jason Momoa, who previously portrayed Aquaman in the DCEU, has been recast as Lobo, a character he has expressed interest in playing for a long time. Momoa has shown his enthusiasm for the role, and fans are eagerly anticipating his on-screen chemistry with Alcock.

Despite the fact that the production of Supergirl has been completed, an official trailer has not yet been released. However, director James Gunn has released a first look at the character, which includes a clever play on words about Superman’s motto. Although there are no immediate plans for a sequel, Kara Zor-El is expected to appear in future DCU projects, suggesting that her story is just beginning in this new chapter of the cinematic universe.
