James Gunn said on October 29, 2026 that DC Studios still hasn’t cast Batman for the DC Universe. He also said Bruce Wayne in The Brave and the Bold will probably land somewhere close in age to Superman star David Corenswet, who’s 33.
That makes 43-year-old Alan Ritchson a fan pick for years, a much tougher sell for Batman in The Brave and the Bold. You can see the logic there, too. A Damian Wayne story needs Bruce to feel experienced, but not so old that the father-son dynamic starts to strain. Ritchson himself told Variety in 2025, “I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future,” though DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran has said the studio has discussed a “couple of things” with him and sees real dramatic range.
If you follow DC casting closely, this update points in a different direction. Azrael now feels like a better fit for Ritchson. Reacher showed how well he handles brutal close-quarters action and darker, messier anti-heroes, and Azrael has even taken Batman’s place in the comics. Bane, Deathstroke, and Midnighter also seem like stronger matches than a polished Bruce Wayne. In the meantime, you can already catch Ritchson in DC roles on Smallville as Aquaman and on Titans as Hawk while you wait for more news on The Brave and the Bold.
