Bungie is implementing drastic changes in Destiny 2, seeking to improve the game with 100% bonuses to attract its declining user base. These changes are part of a broader effort by the studio, which has acknowledged that previous decisions were not well received by the community. The response to these challenges includes new content that will arrive with the Star Wars-themed expansion, Renegades, which will be released on December 2nd.
The destination of Star Wars
The new expansion will feature gameplay activities such as Smuggling, Bounty Hunt, and Sabotage, and will take place in maps inspired by the Star Wars universe, including environments from Europe, Mars, and Venus. According to Bungie’s narrative director, Alison Lührs, it is essential that Renegades integrates coherently into the overall narrative of the game, avoiding the perception of being secondary content.
Players will be able to unlock new skills specific to the expansion, which will replace existing skills and will be available in certain game modes. This decision has raised some concerns among players, who fear that the idea of “borrowed power” seen in other live service games will be repeated.
The narrative of Renegades will revolve around a team of Guardians under the direction of The Drifter, who will undertake missions for various criminal syndicates, facing a new faction of the Cabal Empire called Barant. The expansion will also include new weapons such as the Praxic Swords, which replace the traditional swords in the game.
As Bungie navigates the complex landscape of community feedback and expectations, many are wondering if the studio will stick to its current design approach or consider a completely new change, a decision that may not be clarified until 2026 when a new roadmap is expected. In the meantime, the community hopes that Renegades will offer a revitalizing experience in the Destiny 2 universe.
