Sony has two new PS5 headsets on the way: the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and the PlayStation Pulse Edge Wireless Headset. They’ll arrive in select markets in holiday 2026 and early 2027, bringing planar magnetic audio to Sony’s next round of PS5 headsets.
According to Sony, both models use custom, studio-inspired drivers built from the 2024 PlayStation Pulse Elite. The designs are larger this time, which the company says should help with cleaner separation, more accurate spatial placement, deeper bass, and clearer small audio cues like footsteps or reloads as it keeps pushing 3D audio.
Both headsets also support PlayStation Link for lossless, low-latency audio across PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. You also get simultaneous Bluetooth, microphone noise rejection, rotating earcups, and a choice of White or Midnight Black.
If you’re looking at the higher-end option, the PlayStation Pulse Edge Wireless Headset is the one to keep an eye on. Sony says it adds active noise cancellation and a more advanced driver, with eight magnets per driver instead of four, for stronger bass without giving up clarity. It also includes a detachable boom mic, a hidden backup mic, upgraded materials, and a case.
You’ll be waiting a while before either one goes on sale. Sony says the standard PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset is due first, in select markets during holiday 2026, while the PlayStation Pulse Edge Wireless Headset is set for early 2027. Pricing, exact release dates, pre-orders, and launch markets still haven’t been announced.
Both headsets also slot into Sony’s larger audio push after the company’s 2023 Audeze deal and the reveal of the Pulse Elevate speaker.
