We are all tired of Netflix, Max, Disney+, and other streaming platforms raising their prices. Even YouTube has blatantly raised the price of its YouTube Premium subscription by almost 40% from one year to the next.

If you’re as fed up as we are with these increases, there’s a way to protest: canceling our subscription no matter how much it hurts. And while this threat doesn’t work with Netflix and company, YouTube might convince you to stay with a price lock for a few more months that offsets its 2025 price increase.
In case you missed it, YouTube TV will increase its prices by 10 dollars a month on January 13 for existing members, making your monthly fee 82.99 dollars. That cost is already in effect for new subscribers.
The trick of threatening to leave the service
But if you follow the steps to cancel your subscription, some users report that they are being tempted with six more months at the current cheaper monthly price of $72.99. This is stated by some Reddit users and a member of The Verge team who has also received the offer.
Not everyone is offered the low rate, although a constant factor is how one tries to leave. People report that to be more successful, you should cancel YouTube TV through a web browser on a PC.
From here, go to the YouTube TV settings page, look for the subscription options and then “Manage” to start the simulated cancellation process, or actually cancel if you are interested in leaving YouTube TV no matter how much it tries to tempt you.
Hopefully, this trick will work for a few more weeks, so if you want to keep YouTube TV, you can save 10 dollars a month throughout the first half of 2025. Although ideally, they would stop increasing a price that is starting to become excessive.
