Spanish series are one of the biggest assets of Netflix. Beyond those produced in the United States and South Korea, which have become their main strongholds in terms of quality and content, the fictions produced in our country never cease to amaze with astonishing data.
The biggest one ever made, Money Heist, recently received a spin-off that has worked just as well: Berlin. But its creators don’t stop working, and they already have the next big series for Netflix ready: El refugio atómico. As its name suggests, it is a futuristic dystopian series, but what do we know about it exactly?

Netflix has already revealed what Atomic Shelter will be about, and the truth is that it looks like it could become one of Netflix‘s biggest hits in the future:
“Imagine that the Third World War is about to break out and a group of billionaires take refuge in a luxury bunker: Kimera Underground Park. From there, they will watch on screens, in a bewildering spectacle, how the world they knew is collapsing over their heads. And while the situation outside becomes increasingly terrifying, they will enjoy their exclusive little city with a basketball court, restaurant, zen garden, cocktail bar, psychologist’s couch, gym, and spa. That will be the extent of their mythical privilege: adapting to living in a luxury hole, in an underground universe full of enigmas where the unresolved issues of two families affected by a past wound will explode”.
Cast of El refugio atómico
The chosen actors for The Atomic Shelter are also very interesting. Although not all of them are well-known faces, they have all the potential to become big stars after this series. Miren Ibarguren, Joaquín Furriel, Natalia Verbeke, Carlos Santos, Montse Guallar, and Alicia Falcó join the promising Agustina Bisio, Pau Simon, and Álex Villazán.
The world after El refugio atómico
The series will have a big company behind everything that happens, which is most likely to go against the innocent protagonists. In this case, it is Kimera Underground Park, a Civil Engineering company specialized in unique buildings and underground structures.
As specified by the platform, the company is dedicated to the construction and operation of luxury bunkers with capacity for over 100 guests and autonomy to survive up to ten years. Minerva Palatchi, Engineer and architect, is the CEO and founder of the company which is characterized by the use of pre-existing natural gas cavities, allowing the building to expand up to 700,000 square meters.
Release date of El refugio atómico
As El refugio atómico has just been announced, we don’t know when the series will premiere. However, everything seems to indicate that it will arrive sometime in late 2025. We have to wait for the next big series from the producers of Money Heist, but it couldn’t look any better.
