First of all, it is important to explain that a company as big as Apple, with so many needs, can make agreements with several companies regarding AI without them interfering with each other. In other words, Google and OpenAI have plenty of pie to share.
On the eve of the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, where AI is expected to be one of the main topics of conversation, Apple has reportedly intensified its talks with OpenAI, according to Bloomberg.
As we have previously mentioned at Softonic, Apple has been talking to several major AI companies in search of a possible partnership for chatbot capabilities in future iPhones.

According to Bloomberg, Apple and OpenAI discussed a possible agreement earlier this year. Those conversations have now been reopened, according to people familiar with the matter. The possible agreement could be about OpenAI integrations in iOS 18.
However, no agreement has been reached at the moment. It seems that Apple could be deciding whether to partner with another company to bring chatbot features to their devices. Apple is also in talks with Google to bring the latter’s Gemini to the iPhone.
New research suggests that Apple is also working on an AI-powered update for Siri. From what we know so far, Apple researchers are working on a model that would better understand the context of what is on the screen and in the background on a device than ChatGPT.
I would also better understand the context of the conversations. All of this would be on the device, a change from the current state of large language models (LLMs) that rely on the cloud, because they require a lot of computational power.
Whatever Apple’s plans may be, we may not find out anything until the upcoming WWDC.
