Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has reportedly slipped to early 2027, which means Jon Snow is coming back only as a video game character, at least for now. In War for Westeros, players take control of the major Westeros factions and fight out large-scale battles, with Jon appearing as a Stark leader. So any claim that HBO has confirmed an on-screen return is off base.
If you’re waiting for an official Jon Snow comeback, this is the one that’s actually on the calendar, but it isn’t a new TV continuation. Kit Harington has said the live-action sequel, which was once being developed as Snow from an idea he reportedly brought forward and that George R.R. Martin had previously confirmed, is currently off the table because the team couldn’t find the right story. Reports also pointed to creative concerns about a trauma-heavy, PTSD-scarred version of Jon Snow, and that helped cool years of speculation.
HBO is still expanding Westeros through House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. George R.R. Martin has also hinted that other sequel ideas may be out there, including the long-rumored Arya Stark follow-up. For now, though, Jon Snow’s confirmed return is in Game of Thrones: War for Westeros on PC, not in a new HBO series.
