Goodbye to TinyLetter: Mailchimp has announced that this service will disappear soon
TinyLetter, the well-known and popular service used for designing newsletters, will be definitively shut down by Mailchimp, as officially announced by the company recently. This service will still be active for a short period, but on February 29, 2024, TinyLetter will cease to exist as an active service for users.
After more than a decade of uninterrupted service, Mailchimp has decided that the first two months of 2024 will also mark the last two months of service for this newsletter platform. In fact, counting from the recently made announcement, TinyLetter has only three months left to live, gradually reducing until the arrival of the fateful February 29, 2024.
More than 12 years have passed since Mailchimp acquired TinyLetter, and since then, this service has always been seen as an attractive option for individual users looking to share content personally with those around them. However, with Mailchimp focused on professional aspects, this tool was no longer a priority for them.
Mailchimp also confesses to being aware of the evolving needs of Mailchimp users, who were not receiving improvements and updates in line with the changing times. This was prompting demanding users to leap directly to Mailchimp’s paid plans or to opt for alternative services altogether. Therefore, considering that their service was in freefall, they made the decision to shut it down before it collapsed under its own weight.
TinyLetter allows users to send newsletters to up to 5,000 people.
Mailchimp’s plans
Meanwhile, Mailchimp makes it clear that the closure of TinyLetter responds to strategic and image-related issues. As a service that was increasingly falling behind its competitors, it risked portraying a more negative image than desired. By removing TinyLetter from the equation, Mailchimp positions itself to prioritize its paid services for specialized clients and businesses, sidelining individual users to some extent.
Currently, there are many free alternatives to TinyLetter available. These alternatives present an opportunity to attract all those users who, after the closure of TinyLetter, find themselves without a simple tool to share small newsletters.
