Google won’t bring Android 16’s Battery Health to older Pixels: This is the availability status

Android 16 is set to introduce a new Battery Health page with real-time capacity estimates, but not every Pixel phone will get it. While users were expecting wider support, Google has confirmed the feature will be limited to the Pixel 8a and newer, leaving out all previous models—including the regular Pixel 8 and Pixel Fold.

Only Pixel 8a and newer will support Battery Health

According to Google, the Battery Health page will appear in Android 16 on Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, marking a clear line between new and old hardware. The company cited “product limitations” as the reason, without specifying the exact cause, though it may be linked to hardware differences in battery technology or firmware support.

The new Battery Health page displays the current battery capacity as a percentage compared to a new battery, providing users with a clearer understanding of how battery wear affects daily performance. In addition, users will see a green checkmark when battery status is normal, along with links to support and optimization settings like Adaptive Charging.

Older Pixels fall short of new battery standards

Google’s exclusion of earlier devices appears tied to battery cycle ratings: newer Pixels like the 8a can reach up to 1,000 charge cycles, while older models were designed for only 800. This disparity might explain why older devices lack the infrastructure to support advanced battery analytics.

While this decision will disappoint many Pixel 8 and 7 users, it highlights Google’s shift toward long-term battery longevity and proactive health monitoring—a trend that may become standard in future Android updates.
