“A technical issue caused Instagram accounts to display an inaccurate loss of followers in their Account Insights, but the total follower count on profiles was not affected,” Instagram told Social Media Today. “The issue has been resolved and follower metrics in Account Insights are now accurate.”
Therefore, those users who have been affected by this situation can rest assured, as it is merely a “visual” glitch and their followers have not actually been lost. The technical issue has already been fixed, and the profiles of Instagram users should now display the correct follower counts.
