Apple appears to be internally testing the iOS 17.2.1 update for the iPhone, according to evidence found in the website analytics logs of MacRumors this week. Following the release of iOS 17.2, these logs have previously revealed the existence of several versions of iOS 17 before its official release by Apple. Now, it’s the turn of iOS 17.2.1, likely the last update before the end of the year or the first one of the coming year.
Something that can’t wait for iOS 17.3
iOS 17.2.1 is expected to be a minor update, focused on bug fixes and security improvements. We can rely on its version number to draw this conclusion or on the simple fact that iOS 17.3, which we are currently testing in beta, contains very few changes and those are focused on the Music app and the iPhone anti-theft system.
The truth is that we don’t know what changes this version may bring, but one possibility is the correction of a bug that can cause the Messages app to disappear from the phone when rearranging icons on the home screen.
Beyond that, and considering that the holidays are approaching, there is either the possibility that the update may arrive this same week, or at the beginning of January. Although there was never an iOS 16.2.1 that serves as a reference, but Apple did release iOS 15.2.1 in January 2022.
It may not seem like it, but these small updates are of vital importance. The fact that resources are being dedicated to advancing some changes that cannot wait for iOS 17.3 already indicates that Apple wants to ensure optimal functionality and security of the operating system.
In addition, these updates, step by step, pave the way for more significant features and changes in future versions. So, let’s be on the lookout for a possible update, because Apple is already testing it and sooner rather than later it will also land on our iPhone.
