The hackers from Rhysida have released over 1TB of internal company data, which includes more than 1.3 million files, after demanding a $2 million ransom from Insomniac Games.
And since the developer studio of Marvel’s Spider-Man hasn’t paid, the internet has started receiving images of the upcoming Wolverine game, which we first saw in a trailer a few months ago, during Sony’s PlayStation Showcase.
A massive leak with a defined roadmap
In addition to level designs and character material for Wolverine, the leak apparently includes several internal presentations from the company with details about unannounced games from Insomniac and Sony, screenshots of internal spreadsheets and details about development and marketing budgets.
Apparently, Wolverine is the first of a trilogy of X-Men titles, with the second and third games planned for before the end of 2029 and 2033
A third Spider-Man game is also mentioned, a game based on Venom and a new installment of the Ratchet and Clank franchise.
When Ryhsida announced the hacking last week, Sony said it was investigating, adding that it had “no reason to believe that other divisions of SIE or Sony have been affected”.
The gaming sector: target of hacking attacks
Video game studios have been the target of several recent hacks. Last year, images of Grand Theft Auto VI were published on the Internet after being hacked by Lapsus$. CD Projekt, developer of Cyberpunk 2077, Bandai Namco, and Riot Games have reported attacks in recent years.
Rhysida was the subject of a cybersecurity alert published last month in collaboration with the Department of Justice and the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
When contacted by Cyber Daily, a representative from Rhysida said that their attack was motivated by money. Once again, hackers being the worst people.
