Fortunately, iOS 17 continues to impress us with its capabilities, as now with a simple photo, we can precisely understand the meaning of each and every one of those symbols.
A photo to see if it can go in the dryer
As discovered by Federico Vittici from MacStories, if we take a photo of a laundry label with symbols, the system will tell us what they mean. All we have to do is go to the Photos app on our iPhone, open the specific image, tap on the “i” at the bottom (which will have a couple of stars), and then tap on the Visual Lookup section that appears at the top.
Automatically, we will see a representation of the detected symbols, a brief explanation of what they mean, and, importantly, a link to Safari to obtain more information about the symbol and its meaning.
This information comes from the Online Navigation Platform managed by the International Organization for Standardization, from where Apple extracts the meanings. Fortunately, this information is very standardized, so regardless of the location, brand, or garment, we will be able to know the meaning and relevant washing and care instructions.
A feature that joins Apple’s new tool, allowing us to determine what’s wrong with a car with just a photo, which, let’s admit it, is also incredibly useful. Undoubtedly, Apple has taken a step forward in its commitment to making technology more useful in everyday and simple aspects. Now, clothing labels no longer have to be a mystery to us.
