It is a game that has been active for more than five years and its fame does not wane. No matter how much time passes, Fortnite is the goose that lays the golden eggs for Epic Games. And this is no coincidence: the work that goes behind keeping this game alive is insane.
Fortnite’s latest season kicks off today, bringing the Battle Royale to Chapter 4: Season 4, and, as previewed yesterday, this new installment comes with a heist theme.
But not just any heist: this time, the island has received a handful of luxury locations thanks to a new character: a mysterious vampire.
History of Chapter 4: Fortnite Season 4
Here’s how Epic Games explains the lore of the update: “The vampire Kado Thorne has made the Island his home in Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 4 Season 4, draining the Island’s wealth and treasures to fund some rather luxurious real estate: Sanguinary Suites, Relentless Retreat and Eclipsed Estate.”
“Steal goods from Thorne’s properties to recover what belongs to the Island and, more importantly, to thwart Thorne’s ultimate plan. The fate of the Island is at stake, and theft is the last resort. So, are you in?”
The result, as usual, is a slightly updated map that looks like this:
The heist theme also comes with a number of gameplay changes. You can sneak into any of the new locations to loot powerful items, and there’s new equipment – including the Rocket Ram, which lets you blast out of the building once you have the goods – to accompany this.
There are even raid bags, which are like chests that only contain equipment for raids, and a briefcase that turns into a turret when you drop it on the ground. There are also towers scattered all over the island, which you can use to know the future movements of the storms.
And those who purchase this season’s battle pass will be able to unlock new characters. Among them are: Ahsoka from Star Wars, TikTok star Khaby Lame, an extremely ripped fish named Fish Thicc and the new vampire. Here is the full cast:
This isn’t the first time Fortnite has played with the heist theme, but it seems the most involved so far, not to mention a big stylistic change from last season’s jungle theme.
