Silvia Park’s Luminous was optioned for television by Media Res in 2022, and Park came on board as a producer.
Media Res moved on the rights roughly three years before the novel even reached shelves in March 2025, which is a very quick pickup for an unpublished book and a pretty clear sign that people saw breakout potential early. As of August 2026, though, the adaptation is still in a holding pattern: no showrunner, no cast, no director, no release date, and no announced network or streaming platform.

The studio behind The Morning Show and Pachinko gives the project a strong prestige-TV foundation. Park’s producer credit should also be reassuring if you’re hoping the adaptation keeps the book’s voice and emotional depth intact, even with the biggest creative jobs still unassigned.
The novel is set in a near-future reunified Korea and centers on three estranged siblings, two human and one robot. From there it opens into questions of everyday human-robot coexistence, transhumanism, consciousness, grief, identity, loss, and the damage families carry for years. On paper, that already sounds like something prestige TV would go for.
That kind of pre-publication momentum pointed early to both commercial upside and awards attention. Since then, strong reviews for the prose, the character work, and the scale of the setting have only reinforced that first impression.
Critics have been treating Silvia Park as a major new science fiction voice, and even her George R.R. Martin Sense of Wonder scholarship to Clarion shows the field noticed her long before publication, even if this adaptation has nothing to do with George R.R. Martin himself.
