Microsoft recently announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming would become a standalone service starting in November, separate from Xbox Game Pass. Also, from now on Xbox Game Pass will limit how many hours of Xbox Cloud Gaming you can play each month before you have to buy hour packs to keep playing. Although they didn’t clarify the prices, they did make it clear that it wasn’t going to be a subscription, but that it was going to be based on hour packs. Players could buy hour packs and play for that amount of time in the cloud. Now Xbox has revealed the prices of those packs, which are as follows:
A service that launches just in time
These hours are ad-free and aren’t monthly: they roll over and aren’t used up until you actually play. Also, Xbox Insiders members who don’t have an Xbox Game Pass account will be able to start buying these packs as of today, ahead of their launch for all users next month, and experience cloud gaming firsthand. That said, these prices have been described as “introductory” and could change at the product’s official launch.
The launch of Xbox Cloud Gaming as a standalone service will coincide with the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. This is no coincidence, and Xbox hopes to capitalize on the huge success expected for Rockstar’s title. Though it remains to be seen whether that will in turn translate into major success for its streaming service.
