Mario Kart Tour, Nintendo’s mobile racer, is being shut down on September 29, 2026. Nintendo says that once the servers go dark, the game won’t be playable anymore. The timing puts the end of service just after its seventh anniversary, since Mario Kart Tour first launched on September 25, 2019. There’s also no offline version on the way, which means your save data, purchases, and anything tied to your account will be out of reach after that date.
Nintendo has already started winding things down. Ruby sales have ended, new Gold Pass sign-ups are no longer being accepted, and current subscribers will keep their benefits for the time being. The company also says some of those perks will be opened up to everyone before the shutdown.
That’s a big end for one of Nintendo’s most successful mobile games. Mario Kart Tour pulled in about 123.9 million downloads in its first month, passed 200 million by April 2021, and had brought in more than $200 million in revenue by then. By September 2022, estimates had it getting close to $300 million. Among Nintendo’s mobile releases, only Fire Emblem Heroes ranked higher.
The game didn’t get off to a clean start. Early on, Mario Kart Tour asked players to put up with a gacha system for drivers, karts, and gliders, which drew plenty of criticism. Nintendo later scrapped that setup and switched to a more straightforward shop in 2022.
If you’re still playing Mario Kart Tour on a regular basis, this is your last window to enjoy it before Nintendo pulls back even further on mobile. A handful of Tour tracks still live on in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch, and Mario Kart Tour will remain available to download on iOS and Android until September 29, 2026.
