Max Minghella plays a character known as John in the upcoming Clayface movie from DC Studios, which is currently being filmed in London. Minghella has confirmed that the film will fully embrace the elements of body horror, a hallmark of the character’s roots in the comics. In statements to Collider, he expressed his excitement stating that “it’s a proper movie” with “a really fantastic script.”
Before The Batman 2, a villain is coming
Director James Watkins, known for his work on Eden Lake, seems to be an appropriate choice for this project due to his experience in the horror genre. Minghella praised Watkins’ skill, noting that his extensive career in film fits perfectly with the movie they are creating. “I can’t imagine anyone else doing it,” Minghella added about the director.
The Clayface movie will also feature Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, the second version of Clayface in the comics. This character has the ability to shapeshift and transform into sentient mud, although this ability comes with the loss of his humanity. Set images seem to indicate that Harries will undergo a tough physical transformation that reflects these dramatic changes in his character.
In addition, speculation has arisen that Basil Karlo, the first version of Clayface, could appear in The Batman 2. Actress Carmen Ejogo, who played Eve Karlo in The Penguin, could be connected to this possible appearance. Despite the visual similarities in the sets, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has downplayed the potential connections between Clayface and The Batman 2, stating that both will belong to different narrative universes.
Clayface is scheduled to premiere on September 11, 2026, and fans are eagerly anticipating what promises to be an intriguing and innovative adaptation of the source material.
