Last March, a science fiction series that had been in the making for years was released on Netflix. The Three-Body Problem, directed by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss —the showrunners of Game of Thrones—, was launched as one of the platform’s biggest bets, and the audience responded with a moderate response; it has neither been the platform’s biggest success nor a failure.
This caused uncertainty about whether the series would continue in the future or be canceled, as some predicted. However, Netflix has decided to once again bet on Benioff and Weiss to trust in a second season. But not only that. As they announce in the message of its renewal, “Netflix will continue the epic story until its impressive conclusion“.
Renewed until the end
Does this latest message mean that The Three-Body Problem will only have two seasons? It’s not clear at all, but this message can mean either that everything will end in the second season or that it has been renewed until the showrunners decide to end the story they want to tell. In case you haven’t seen the series yet, here’s the official synopsis:
“The fateful decision of a young woman in 1960s China reverberates through space and time to the present day. When the laws of nature inexplicably unfold before her eyes, a united group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unwavering detective to confront the greatest threat in the history of humanity.”
In the series there are several actors who repeat from Game of Thrones: John Bradley, Jonathan Pryce and Liam Cunningham. But alongside them there are many other interesting actors such as Benedict Wong, Rosalind Chao, Jovan Adepo, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Ben Schnetzer, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka and Zine Tseng.
