In recent years, Denis Villeneuve has shown that the universe of Dune is an infinite cosmos full of possibilities. Undoubtedly, both films have been epic epics in which the photography, production design, and performances are practically miraculous. In fact, the second part has become the most acclaimed science fiction film in recent years, and everything indicates that it will continue to be so in both the third part and its spin-offs.
The first one is Dune: Prophecy, a series for Max that will arrive next autumn and will have six episodes. The plot takes place approximately 10,000 years before the appearance of Paul Atreides as the Messiah. It focuses on two Harkonnen sisters who face various forces that endanger the fate of humanity, while establishing the iconic sisterhood that will later be recognized as Bene Gesserit.
Nothing to envy from Villeneuve’s movies
The cast of Dune: Prophecy includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Johdi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, and Shalom Brune-Franklin. Alison Schapker will be in charge as showrunner and executive producer, adding layers of reality to the universe created by Frank Herbert and Denis Villeneuve.
There is another figure that should be highlighted: Jon Spaihts, who has contributed as a screenwriter in the film adaptations directed by Denis Villeneuve. This figure will serve as one of the executive producers, along with Brian Herbert. In addition, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert will be executive producers representing the Frank Herbert license and his literary works. Alongside this series, Warner Bros. and Legendary are moving forward with the production of the third installment of this saga set in Arrakis for the big screen.
