Nielsen’s latest 2024 streaming rankings put a Netflix sci-fi series in the top spot for the year so far. The report also makes clear how big streaming has become: in June, it accounted for more than 40% of total TV use; in May, it was up 8% from a year earlier; and across 2024, viewers logged nearly 14 trillion minutes watched.
Netflix’s own numbers show it stayed competitive across genres too. Bridgerton: Season 3 reached 91.9 million views and 733 million hours in the first half. Squid Game: Season 2 pulled in 86.5 million views in the second half. Avatar: The Last Airbender hit 55.4 million views in four weeks and has already landed two more seasons. 3 Body Problem drew 39.7 million views in a month and got renewed for seasons two and three. Then there’s Fool Me Once, Baby Reindeer, and The Gentlemen.
Netflix says nearly one-third of viewing on the service came from non-English titles such as La Palma and The Accident. Nielsen’s data shows a similar story on the licensed side: Young Sheldon led viewing there, and Grey’s Anatomy nearly 48 billion minutes across Hulu and Netflix.
