The recent alliance between Nintendo and FromSoftware has left millions of players perplexed with the announcement of the title The Duskbloods. Developed by the prestigious studio known for releases like Bloodborne and Elden Ring, this new venture promises to immerse players in a dark and gothic multiplayer fantasy world. The game is expected to arrive on consoles in 2026, generating high interest within the gaming community.
Initially it was not intended for Switch 2
The Duskbloods will be published globally by Nintendo, although with the exception of the Japanese market, where FromSoftware will maintain control of its release. This strategy suggests that, despite the collaboration, the Japanese studio will retain the creative direction of the project. However, fans are wondering if there will be versions of the game on other platforms.
The situation recalls previous collaborations, such as Octopath Traveler, which debuted as a Nintendo Switch exclusive in 2018 before expanding to other consoles. On the other hand, the case of Bayonetta could indicate that The Duskbloods will have a more permanent exclusivity. The extent of Nintendo’s investment in this project is still unknown, leaving the door open to speculation about its multi-console future.
Interestingly, The Duskbloods was not initially designed for Nintendo Switch 2, but for the original hybrid console. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game’s director, revealed that after an initial meeting with Nintendo to discuss ideas, the project evolved into a development adapted to the capabilities of the new hardware. This demonstrates FromSoftware’s flexibility in response to the technological demands of the current market.
The future of The Duskbloods remains shrouded in a cloak of uncertainty, especially regarding its exclusivity and potential releases on other platforms.
