Nintendo Switch had one of the most spectacular launches in video game history. It’s hard to remember a moment when shelves emptied faster of consoles and video games. The original Game Boy, the Wii, and not much else. But that’s not something that satisfies Nintendo. After all, if it’s possible to sell more, they don’t want to sell less.
Due to Nintendo’s lack of foresight, many people who wanted to buy the Nintendo Switch were unable to do so. This led to a great speculation with the console, which caused it to reach horrendous prices in the secondary market. Nintendo did not like this, so they have decided to address it from the start for its successor.
In the Q&A session of an investor meeting, the company executives were asked what measures will be taken to prevent console scalping for the release of Nintendo Switch 2. In response, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has stated that their main measure will be a very simple one: ensuring that players do not have to buy from scalpers because there will be more than enough consoles available in stores.
According to Furukawa, they will produce enough consoles and games to meet consumer demand. Similarly, when asked if they have other plans in mind, he said that everything will change from market to market. In addition, he wanted to emphasize that the possibility of being affected by not being able to produce enough consoles is, in principle, impossible. There is no longer any limitation on components to make chips for the successor model of the Nintendo Switch, and that is why they should be able to manufacture as many as necessary for its release.
Despite all this, it is important to remember that the Nintendo Switch 2 has not been officially announced. According to Furukawa’s statement on Nintendo’s official Twitter account, the successor to their current console will be announced at some point during the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025. So we will still have to wait, but with the assurance that we won’t be left without a new console.
