The Nintendo Switch 2has achieved an unprecedented milestone by selling 4.4 million units in just seven months, establishing itself as the best-selling console in U.S. history. This impressive performance not only sets a new record but also surpasses the sales speed of the PlayStation 4 by 35% in the same time frame, placing it in a privileged position in the current video game market.
A success like no other
Despite these outstanding numbers, it is important to mention that the Game Boy Advance, launched in 2001, remains the fastest-selling console, reaching 500,000 units in just 10 days. According to industry analyst Mat Piscatella, the Switch 2 took about a month to sell 1.6 million units, a figure that is undoubtedly impressive, but pales in comparison to the launch of Nintendo’s handheld device.
The success of the Nintendo Switch 2 is reflected in its installed base, which is almost double that of the original console, and it is capturing the attention of gamers in an increasingly competitive market. The PlayStation 5 ranks second in sales behind the Switch 2, while Xbox sales have dropped by approximately 50% in 2025, highlighting the challenge Microsoft faces in the sector.
In an additional announcement, Nintendo has revealed that it will launch Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s Switch 2 Edition in March. This new title will include local and online co-op modes, as well as additional characters, such as Rosalina and Luma. With the support of this new content, Nintendo is positioning its console not only as the best-selling one but also as the most innovative in terms of game offerings.
