On July 30, 2026, Tesla said its 10 millionth electric vehicle had rolled off the line at the company’s Fremont Factory in California. It’s a symbolic number, yes, but it also has real financial weight: 10 million vehicles puts Tesla halfway to its long-stated goal of producing 20 million vehicles a year, one of the biggest targets tied to CEO Elon Musk’s compensation package.
For you, that means this isn’t just a nice headline or a round-number milestone. Ten million is the midpoint on Tesla’s long-running path to 20 million vehicles annually, and that target sits at the center of one of the most closely watched parts of Musk’s pay plan.
The announcement comes after delivery declines in 2024 and 2025, though Tesla says the trend is starting to improve. The company reported more than 480,000 deliveries in Q2 2026, up 25% from the same period a year earlier, and more than 830,000 in the first half of the year.
That helps frame the milestone a little better. Tesla is still trying to grow while dealing with pricing pressure, new product bets, and heavier investment.
The pace of production has shifted a lot, too. Tesla says the first 1 million vehicles took about 12 years to build, while the most recent 1 million took only months. Shanghai played a big part in that: Tesla said the plant produced nearly 468,000 vehicles in the first half, which amounts to more than half of the company’s global output.
