No one can deny that the launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI in 2022 was a breakthrough. For the first time, we could experience a chatbot that could do almost everything, and quite well at that. Now, the company has taken advantage of the context of its first developer-focused event to introduce some very interesting updates.
During the said event, which took place last Monday, OpenAI announced ChatGPT Turbo. It is what they call “a leap forward for the next generation” and aims to address some of the shortcomings that GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 had. To start with, it has a context length of 128K, meaning it allows us to write prompts with an extension of up to 300 pages of a standard book.
Its functionality has also been optimized, resulting in a reduction of its cost. GPT-4 Turbo is fed with data updated until April 2023, making its responses much more accurate. For now, GPT-4 Turbo is available to developers who pay to use its API (Application Programming Interface). If you are not a developer, don’t worry: you can still use GPT-3.5 for free.
The GPT Store, new GPTs, and more
OpenAI has entered the world of app stores with its own, the GPT Store.
Through it, users can access GPTs, the name OpenAI has given to their AI agents. In essence, these are customized versions of ChatGPT created by the community. As you can imagine, there will be assistants oriented towards all kinds of activities. OpenAI has showcased several examples, such as Tech Advisor and Sticker Whiz. The former is an assistant that helps with computer-related tasks (like assisting in printer setup, for example), and the latter transforms prompts into stickers.
Beyond this, OpenAI has not specified how the GPT Store will function. However, they have promised to pay the creators of GPTs. These AI agents will be available to both ChatGPT Plus subscribers and OpenAI’s business customers.
