“Our Indiana Jones is not a superhero,” warns Bethesda

The release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is scheduled for 2024. And, as a title developed by Xbox Game Studios, it will be available on Game Pass.

If there’s something that a man of 30 years or older can enjoy, it’s a new adventure of Indiana Jones. The legendary archaeologist and history professor is back in the best way: as a video game for Xbox and PC.

Developer MachineGames showed us yesterday for the first time their upcoming game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and their approach to the iconic character. The desire to play is tremendous.

In a published post on the official Lucasfilm website, the game director, Jerk Gustafsson, has talked about the game, which is set to be released for Xbox Series X|S and PC by the end of this same 2024. In the post, Gustafsson makes it clear that Indy, just like in the movies, is not all-powerful.

“We have based our game philosophy on the character of Indiana Jones,” says Gustafsson. “He is not a superhero, he is a very agile and tough archaeologist. When he overcomes the numerous obstacles that stand in his way, he needs a lot of effort and hard work, like a real human being.”

Gustafsson continues to explain the “feeling of terror” that players can experience when traversing the game’s environments, as well as the “terrifying and heavy” feeling of combat.

I think both approaches fit well with the game, especially if we consider that the original trilogy of movies is full of scenes where Indy barely makes it through. Let’s hope that MachineGames can bring that level of tension to The Great Circle.

Gustafsson also suggests that there will probably be a strong sense of discovery in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, stating: “A third important component is, of course, the discovery of all these hidden historical moments in the earth, or in the sand. Feeling like an expert archaeologist on an adventure is perhaps the most important part of the experience of being Indiana Jones.”
