Paint has always been the go-to visual editing application for the less skilled, or for the lazier ones, depending on how you see it. It has always been a tool that has had a bad reputation, even though it has saved our lives on more than one occasion.
After the grand unveiling of their new AI assistant, Windows Copilot, the company has introduced another AI bot, Cocreator, to help generate images in the iconic Paint application.
Cocreator is powered by Dall-E, like Bing Image Creator, and operates in a similar manner. You provide Cocreator with a description of what you would like to see composed, select an artistic style if you have one in mind, and Cocreator will attempt to create it.
TweakTown describes the results as “impressive,” and other initial reactions to the new tool are positive, partly due, undoubtedly, to its use of the latest version of OpenAI’s Dall-E.
Twitter user PhantomOfEarth has discovered one of the first demonstration opportunities and has found a new “first run” tutorial that allows you to use Paint Cocreator for the first time in Windows version 11.2309.28.0 (in Canary and Dev).
It appears that Cocreator is still in the testing phase, and to be able to try it, Microsoft asks you to sign up for the waiting list in the Cocreator sidebar – and once approved, you should receive an email.
Microsoft doesn’t specify which panel they are referring to, but we assume that you can also get Paint Cocreator by first being in the Windows Insider Program (which you’ll have to join if you’re not already a member) and installing the latest Canary or Dev version. Afterward, you should be able to update your Paint application through Microsoft Store > Library.
Whichever route you take, Cocreator is still in the testing phase, and the version you’ll see will be a preview version, subject to potential changes and developments.
