Perplexity has opened up Brain, a new working-memory system for its Computer agent, in research preview starting today.
Brain goes further than just remembering your preferences. Perplexity says it learns from actions, results, mistakes, corrections, files, and past sessions. From there, it organizes that history into a traceable context graph and turns it into a language-model-powered wiki it can reuse for future tasks.
Perplexity also says Brain processes that history overnight. That gives Computer a way to improve from one session to the next, rather than relying only on a live context window. In Perplexity’s internal tests, that produced a 25% boost in answer accuracy on repeated tasks, a 16% improvement in recall, and a 13% drop in costs for work that depends on historical context.
If your work depends on repeatable, trust-sensitive workflows, Brain seems worth trying. Every memory item can be traced back to its source, which should make auditing and debugging easier.
There are still a few caveats. The benchmarks are internal, questions around data governance and deletion still don’t have clear answers, and overnight updates aren’t the same as real-time adaptation.
It’s also arriving at a moment when OpenAI, Google, Mem0, Zep, and Letta are all rolling out similar memory features. Brain is available now in research preview if you’re subscribed to Perplexity Max or Enterprise Max.
