During the Pokémon Presents event by Nintendo, a new Pokémon anime miniseries has been introduced: “Pokémon: Path to the Peak.” What sets it apart is that, unlike previous anime in the franchise, this time it won’t focus on capturing Pokémon. Instead, it will revolve around something, ironically, closer to home – not recording our snores while we sleep, but the Pokémon trading card game.
The series will follow Ava, a girl who discovers her natural talent for Pokémon cards alongside her adventure companion, Oddish. With the help of her family, community, and new friends, she aims to rise to the top, finding a way to connect with her classmates through Pokémon cards after moving to a new city with her parents. It’s an adventure that sounds like a classic Pokémon story, but with a twist focusing on the cards themselves rather than the creatures.
Featuring a cartoonish art style with predominant texturing and clean lines, giving it a softer and more Western look than the usual anime style we’re used to, this miniseries will premiere its first episode on August 11th worldwide. Just in time for the Pokémon World Finals in Yokohama.
Especially because it’s not the only anime they’ve showcased. We’ve also had a glimpse of “Pokémon Evolutions,” which has already premiered in Japan but doesn’t have a release date in the West yet, and another one called “Pokémon: Paldea Winds,” an upcoming online anime about the “Crimson” and “Azure” games available on Pokémon’s official YouTube channel.
With all these announcements, now is a golden opportunity to jump on the Pokémon series and card game bandwagon. At least, judging by how spectacular the trailers they’ve shown us look.
