Roblox has updated its Kids and Select policy. Developers can no longer pair a media feed with auto-play or infinite scroll and then hand out rewards for watching. For younger players, that closes off a setup where a video stream can keep going without any real stopping point, something Roblox says isn’t appropriate for kids.
Put more plainly, younger users can’t be given in-game rewards for sitting through endless video viewing with no natural break. That’s the part Roblox is drawing a line around.
The change came after the backlash over Steal an Egg, a popular pet simulator where players could build speed by standing on a treadmill while a video feed ran beside them. Roblox pulled Steal an Egg, then moved fast to turn that criticism into a broader policy rule.
This doesn’t ban endless scrolling across the whole platform, and it doesn’t apply to rewarded video ads.
If child safety on Roblox matters to you, this looks like a reasonable move. The company is already under pressure from U.S. senators, exploitation reports, lawsuits, and regulators, including officials in Australia. Critics have also argued that user-made hits are hard to control, even with age checks, chat restrictions, automated moderation, and rules that block adult-child messaging.
What still isn’t clear is how Roblox will enforce this, how quickly content will be removed, where the edge cases land, or what to make of the still-limited research on long-term effects. Still, one thing has changed: kids’ games in youth-focused spaces can no longer turn endless video watching into a gameplay advantage.
You can get Roblox on iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and consoles.
