Nothing has opened the Nothing OS 5.0 beta for the Nothing Phone (3). The update, based on Android 17, starts rolling out on August 26, 2026 and brings more than 80 changes across the system, the company says.
The feature list is long. Nothing says the beta adds adaptive color theming, transparent widgets, the Geist typeface, a Glyph Interface app, new lock screen clock styles, Essential Voice, and Essential Apps Builder. It also picks up Android 17 features, including 3D emoji, tighter privacy controls, and a redesigned Recents screen.
There’s been a hitch early on: some users are seeing “Network Error” messages when they try to download it. Nothing says the build itself isn’t at fault. The issue, according to the company, is server and bandwidth strain from heavy demand. Co-founder Akis Evangelidis says they’re working to get things stable.
If you’re on a Nothing Phone (3) and want in early, this beta seems like one to try once the servers calm down. If the download fails, you’re probably better off trying again later than digging around your phone for a fix. Nothing says more supported devices should be announced in September, the stable Nothing Phone (3) release is planned for mid-October, and other eligible models are expected to follow through January 2027. The Nothing Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1, though, aren’t expected to get the update.
