Federico García Lorca is an author who has a lot to offer, but what few of us could have imagined is that he would inspire a horror series based on Andalusian folklore. This has happened with “Romancero,” the new Spanish series on Amazon Prime Video that features all kinds of monsters, a suffocating atmosphere, and a dramatic narrative in the style of the poet.
“Romancero” is a supernatural thriller written by Fernando Navarro, the screenwriter behind the recent films “Venus” and “Verónica.” The series is directed by Tomás Peña and is scheduled to premiere on November 3rd. However, those attending the Sitges Film Festival will have the exclusive opportunity to watch the first episodes. The teaser trailer certainly looks promising.
A chilling series indeed
But what is Romancero exactly about? Amazon Prime Video provides us with its official synopsis, which makes it clear that they won’t shy away from showing horrors of all kinds:
Cornelia is a girl whose childhood has been stolen. Jordán is neither a child nor a man. They are two helpless young people fleeing from the forces of the law, powerful supernatural creatures, and themselves. Romancero is the story of this escape, of the pursued and the pursuers, set in a harsh and cruel Andalusia, as real as it is mythical, during a night of nightmares filled with demons, witches, and blood drinkers.
The series features a wide range of Spanish stars, including Belén Cuesta, Ricardo Gómez, Willy Toledo, Alba Flores, Julieta Cardinali, Sasha Cócola, and Elena Matic, among others. It will consist of six episodes, each lasting about half an hour, and the story unfolds over the course of a single night.
