Spotify rolled out Talk to Spotify in beta on July 14, 2026, giving Premium subscribers in the U.S., Ireland, and Sweden a new way to search for music and control playback inside the app by having an actual back-and-forth with it.
You can ask for a song, an artist, a genre, a mood, similar tracks, details about songs or podcasts, even what you played last week, either by voice or by text.
And then keep going. If the first result is close but not quite there, you can follow up with something like “something like this, but more upbeat,” which makes finding music feel less like poking through search results, playlists, or algorithmic recommendations and more like texting a friend who gets what you mean.
If Spotify is how you usually hunt for music, this is probably one to try. It extends the company’s push around playlist tools and the more agent-like direction behind Spotify DJ and generated playlists. Spotify says Spotify DJ has already reached 90 million subscribers. The timing matters too, since Amazon Music is rolling out Alexa+ and YouTube Music now has a Gemini playlist generator for Premium users.
Spotify had already widened access to generated playlists and signed a deal with Universal Music Group that covers AI-generated covers and remixes.
Talk to Spotify still comes with limits, though. It’s only available in certain countries, and only on Premium. There are also open questions around accessibility features, voice controls, copyright, diluted royalties, and whether automated recommendations will keep steering people toward dominant artists while smaller acts get pushed further into the background.
If you’re a Premium subscriber in the U.S., Ireland, or Sweden, you should be able to find Talk to Spotify in the Spotify app. Spotify says the beta started rolling out on July 14, 2026.
