Com2uS has put a date on the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End crossover in Summoners War: Sky Arena. It goes live on June 29 in most regions, then on June 30 in Asia. The publisher says the update adds five crossover characters to the game: Frieren, Fern, Stark, Übel, and Himmel. If you want a preview before it drops, there’s already an official mini-site up, plus a teaser trailer that shows off some of their in-game abilities.
The teaser is also tied to a YouTube community event. According to the official event details, players can help unlock in-game rewards by leaving comments, and a small number of participants will also have a shot at winning a limited-edition Summoners War chess set.
For people who play Summoners War: Sky Arena every day, and for anyone who’s been thinking about coming back, this looks like a pretty good excuse to jump in. It’s the game’s third anime crossover, after Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer. Before those, Summoners War also crossed over with Street Fighter, Assassin’s Creed, and The Witcher. On sheer name recognition alone, this is a big one. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has sold more than 35 million manga copies, according to the manga’s official circulation figures, and it’s picked up a lot of praise around the world. Summoners War, for its part, has generated more than $3 billion in revenue, according to Com2uS, and recently climbed past 22,000 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB.
Not everyone seems sold yet. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End fans look excited, but some longtime Summoners War: Sky Arena players, going by early comment sections and social media reactions, are already uneasy about the growing number of humanoid crossover units and the fact that this event is arriving sooner than they expected. If you want to check it out yourself, you can download the update through Summoners War: Sky Arena on mobile.
