Although Nintendo has stopped updating Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, probably to focus on the new installment of the saga, the video game that brings together the best characters of the franchise continues to gain fans. Its competitive scene, in fact, is one of the most powerful, and there are many tournaments that test the skill of the players.
However, lately a big controversy has arisen in these tournaments and competitions. The blame lies with one of the last characters added to the roster in a DLC, who is apparently too powerful for the fights to be balanced: Steve.
Steve from Minecraft is OP
Steve, the Minecraft character that is part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, features an ultimate technique that many players consider “overpowered” (OP). The technique in question is called MLG, and it allows Steve to cancel hitstun on any move that doesn’t knock him down.
Properly used, this technique makes the character practically immortal. For this reason, many competitions do not allow the character to be used at all. Other tournaments simply do not allow the technique to be used, and in those where it is allowed, players keep asking for it to be cancelled.
Nintendo has done nothing to save the situation, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to do it anymore, since it is no longer updating Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, this is generating a great deal of tension from the most loyal players, who are threatening to abandon the franchise if a solution is not found soon.
