Apple TV+ has intensified its pace of original film releases, presenting three feature films in less than a month. The latest addition to its catalog is Labyrinth on Fire, a gripping thriller starring acclaimed actor Matthew McConaughey, who has captured the audience’s attention since its premiere, reaching number 1 in 102 countries.
A film lifted by great names
Labyrinth on Fire is based on true events, taking its narrative from a book by Lizzie Johnson published in 2021. The plot centers on a bus driver who is forced to guide several children through a devastating fire in California in 2018, which became the deadliest in the state’s history. This astonishing story, full of tension and heroism, has resonated with viewers, highlighting human bravery in extreme situations.
The direction is handled by Paul Greengrass, known for his work on United 93, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Captain Phillips. Additionally, Greengrass co-wrote the script with Brad Ingelsby, creator of the successful miniseries Mare of Easttown, which adds a remarkable level of quality. The cast includes not only McConaughey but also America Ferrera, Yul Vazquez, and Ashlie Atkinson, who complete a strong ensemble.
The film has been well received by critics, achieving an 87% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an average score of 65 on Metacritic. Additionally, an interesting fact stands out in the film: both McConaughey’s son, Levi, and his 93-year-old mother, Kay, make their appearances in this captivating tale, adding a personal touch to the narrative. With these releases, Apple TV+ is establishing itself as a serious competitor in the realm of cinematic entertainment.
