The (good) Harry Potter manga will receive an anime

The Japanese publishing world is enormous. With a reading rate among the highest in the world, everything that is published in the Nippon country is simply unmanageable. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise anyone that we don’t get even a tenth of what is published. Not even within such a popular sector as manga. Because neither among the most popular works, nor among the most prestigious works, do they all receive the treatment they deserve.

Among the popular, recognized works that have a loyal audience and have even managed to reach our borders, there is Atelier of Witch Hat. A manga by Kamome Shirahama about a girl named Coco who discovers she has magical powers when she is taken in by Qifrey, a wizard who decides to teach her magic along with a group of other girls who are also his apprentices. All with exquisite artwork, fantastic scripts, and absolutely amazing world-building.

To the surprise of many people, despite Atelier of Witch Hat being published in 2016, it has never received an anime adaptation. Perhaps because it was a more cult work. Perhaps because the complexity of its drawing made its adaptation more difficult. But last Thursday, during the Anime Expo, the anime adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier was announced.

Presented with a small, absolutely spectacular trailer, the ones in charge of making the anime will be BUG films. The director will be Ayumu Watanabe, known for his extraordinary work in Children of the Sea and Space Brothers, and the music will be composed by Yuka Kitamura, who recently composed the music for Elden Ring. Establishing a dream team that practically assures us that we should not miss this new anime for anything in the world.

To watch the anime adaptation of Shirahama’s work, as usual, we will still have to wait a little. Its release is expected during 2025, without a specific date yet, and Crunchyroll has already confirmed that they will be in charge of its broadcast. Therefore, it is already assured that we will be able to watch this anime outside of Japan and delight, once again, in the story of these charming witches.
