The highly anticipated anime Witch Hat Atelier finally premieres on April 6 on Crunchyroll, after several delays since its announcement in 2022. The adaptation of the popular manga by Kamome Shirahama has been building excitement, and as more details have been revealed, interest has grown in the fan community.

They are a little witches

Produced by Bug Films, the project has not been without difficulties, due to the ambition of those in charge to ensure an animation quality comparable to that of The Lord of the Rings. This has led to constant delays, as every detail of the production is being perfected, an effort that could result in a masterpiece within the fantasy genre.

The story follows Coco, a girl who dreams of being a witch, despite being born without magical powers. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets a wizard named Qifrey, who reveals secrets about magic that change her understanding of herself and her abilities. This initial premise promises a narrative rich in discoveries and excitement, elements that resonate with what has established the manga as one of the best-selling in Japan, even surpassing Kimetsu no Yaiba.

The anime features a voice cast led by Rena Motomura as Coco and Natsuki Hanae as Qifrey. Additionally, it boasts a renowned production team, including Ayumu Watanabe, a director known for his work on Komi Can’t Communicate. With its recent trailer, the visual quality and magic that will be used in the adaptation have been confirmed.

Given the success of the manga and the great anticipation surrounding this new series, Witch Hat Atelier could mark a significant milestone in the anime landscape, and fans are eagerly hoping it meets the high expectations it has generated.

The (good) Harry Potter manga will receive an anime

The Japanese publishing world is enormous. With a reading rate among the highest in the world, everything that is published in the Nippon country is simply unmanageable. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise anyone that we don’t get even a tenth of what is published. Not even within such a popular sector as manga. Because neither among the most popular works, nor among the most prestigious works, do they all receive the treatment they deserve.

Among the popular, recognized works that have a loyal audience and have even managed to reach our borders, there is Atelier of Witch Hat. A manga by Kamome Shirahama about a girl named Coco who discovers she has magical powers when she is taken in by Qifrey, a wizard who decides to teach her magic along with a group of other girls who are also his apprentices. All with exquisite artwork, fantastic scripts, and absolutely amazing world-building.

To the surprise of many people, despite Atelier of Witch Hat being published in 2016, it has never received an anime adaptation. Perhaps because it was a more cult work. Perhaps because the complexity of its drawing made its adaptation more difficult. But last Thursday, during the Anime Expo, the anime adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier was announced.

Presented with a small, absolutely spectacular trailer, the ones in charge of making the anime will be BUG films. The director will be Ayumu Watanabe, known for his extraordinary work in Children of the Sea and Space Brothers, and the music will be composed by Yuka Kitamura, who recently composed the music for Elden Ring. Establishing a dream team that practically assures us that we should not miss this new anime for anything in the world.

To watch the anime adaptation of Shirahama’s work, as usual, we will still have to wait a little. Its release is expected during 2025, without a specific date yet, and Crunchyroll has already confirmed that they will be in charge of its broadcast. Therefore, it is already assured that we will be able to watch this anime outside of Japan and delight, once again, in the story of these charming witches.
