Patch 1.3 for Crysis 3 released

Crytek’s Crysis 3 gets its third patch today, with Patch 1.3. It’s an update for all platforms, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox.

It has a range of bug fixes, and anti-cheat measures on PC. One interesting point is the ‘reduction of bandwidth usage‘. In a Q&A session, a Crysis 3 developer explained that reducing bandwidth usage should improve latency issues. Latency issues cause slowdowns in gameplay, which can make the game unfair and frustrating.

Read on for a full list of fixes.

Crysis 3 multiplayer beta starts today

Today the free open beta starts for Crysis 3 multiplayer. If you don’t know Crysis, it’s probably the best looking first person shooter around, and its multiplayer modes are excellent.

The beta runs from today until February 12th 2013. You need to download EA’s Origin software to play the game, and create a free Origin account.

This allows you to play two game modes, Hunter and Crash Site, over two maps, Airport and Museum. If you’re not sure how to play, there’s an excellent video tutorial from Crytek, which will get you started.

The final game will contain 12 maps and 8 game modes in multiplayer, so this beta only shows us a little of the final product. If you enjoy FPS games it’s essential, so check it out!

Crysis 2 Multiplayer PC Demo Released

Since the original came out three years ago, Crysis has come to be a defining PC gaming experience, with incredible graphics and almost unreasonable hardware requirements!

Today saw the release of the Crysis 2 Multiplayer demo, which you can download here. Sadly, developer Crytek’s servers appeared to be struggling under the weight of all the excited PC gamers this morning. Login problems seem to have been solved now, and while it’s certainly busy, it is possible to join games again.

From March 1st to 13th you can play multiplayer games over two maps and two game modes. Team Instant Action is basically a team death match, while Crash Site is a kind of capture the flag match, although the location of the ‘flags’ changes throughout the game.

You can level up in the demo, gaining XP through kills, protecting crash sites and so on. This will allow you access to more classes of soldier and more varied weaponry.

Whichever mode you choose, the action is fast-paced, intense and more in line with Halo than Modern Combat, thanks to your Nanosuit’s exaggerated jump ability. Any newbie will find their first few games dispiriting, as they get torn to pieces by experienced players, but this helps you learn how to not get killed, and you’ll soon be racking up kills yourself!

The menu system and method for joining multiplayer games still lags behind console titles like Battlefield 1943. Instead of letting players try and fail to join full servers, it would be much better if server choice was made by the game and you could just jump in. Nevertheless, this demo shows that Crytek have created a formidable multiplayer experience,  which will help build up hype for the full game, coming on March 19th (25th in Europe).

Crysis 2 multiplayer demo coming to PC!

PC gamers have been feeling a little left out recently, with lots of cross platform releases getting demos on XBox and PlayStation, but not on PC. When it was announced that Crysis 2 was getting a demo on XBox 360, there was unsurprisingly a lot of grumbling. The first game was PC only, and its success was thanks to PC gamers…

Thankfully, EA have announced the demo will also come out for PCs too. Phew! There’s no date yet, but as the game is set for release at the end of March, it must be soon. We’ll have a full review as soon as we get our hands on it. Meanwhile, check out the teaser trailer below:
