It’s only been three weeks since Creature Commandos, the first official series of the DCU by James Gunn, premiered on Max. However, the animated fiction starring a group of misunderstood monsters has performed so well on the streaming platform that its second season has already been announced.

As Gunn himself has posted on his social networks, the series will have a second part at some future point. Additionally, he has taken the opportunity to continue enjoying this first season, whose last episode will premiere on January 9, and to wish all his followers a Merry Christmas.

The DCU is in good hands

With a premiere of 100% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Creature Commandos has become one of the series of the season. Its blend with the style of Suicide Squad and the focus on a group of supernatural misfits has resulted in a fun, adult show full of dark humor that has captivated fans of this universe that Gunn is building alongside Peter Safran.

The universe of Dune created by Denis Villeneuve is proving to be very fruitful. In addition to the two films that have already been released with great success in theaters, the director is preparing Dune: Messiah, the third installment that will adapt the second original book by Frank Herbert. But that’s not all. On November 17, Dune: Prophecy, a spin-off series premiered on Max and has been well received on the platform.

Dune: Prophecy has done so well that HBO has already announced that the series will have a second season. Although we don’t have any information yet on when this season 2 will arrive, it will be a new expansion to a universe that continues to grow and practically has no limits.

A universe without limits

Starring Emily Watson, Travis Fimmel, and Mark Strong, the series is set 10,000 years before the events of the original film, following the sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen in their fight against forces that threaten the future of humanity and in the creation of the legendary sect known as the Bene Gesserit. Undoubtedly, it is a “Game of Thrones” in the Dune universe for the most dedicated fans.

There are few directors in the history of cinema like Clint Eastwood. The former western legend has directed a staggering 40 films, and at 94 years old, he has released what he once said would be his last foray into cinemas. Although this hasn’t been completely finalized, it is more than likely that this will be the case, and that Juror #2 will be the promised end of his career.

The film has had a somewhat modest run in theaters, although most critics have liked it, and now it arrives on Max to continue delighting audiences with a story in the purest Eastwood style. But is it really worth watching?

A unique moral dilemma in cinema

Throughout the film, we as the audience question whether he truly has anything to do with this case or not, and we delve into his mind to determine what would be best in this situation. Undoubtedly, it is a tough film filled with moral dilemmas… something that Eastwood excels at.

The DC Comics cinematic universe is beginning to take shape thanks to both James Gunn, who is doing a spectacular job with productions like Superman and Creature Commandos, and Matt Reeves, whose The Batman saga is exciting everyone. Next year, the second part of the film will start shooting, but a few months ago we were all delighted with the wonderful The Penguin, a spin-off of the original movie.

The Penguin was sold as a miniseries that served as a bridge between movies, and its narrative certainly seemed very self-contained. However, its success has been such that many have requested a second season… and now it might become a reality.

A spin-off that offers a lot

During a conversation with Zoë Kravitz (who is both Catwoman and the director of Blink Twice), Matt Reeves has acknowledged that, in addition to working on The Batman II, he is in serious talks with Max for a possible second season of The Penguin. Everything is still up in the air, but it would be incredible news for fans of this universe.

Since its premiere in 2021, The White Lotus has become one of the most acclaimed phenomena of recent series. With its Eat the Rich premise that seeks to ridicule the usual practices of the rich when they go on vacation, the first two seasons, both completely independent, are a gem of entertainment that you cannot miss before the third season comes out.

The social satire from which The White Lotus originates mixes with drama and a bit of mystery to bring to HBO one of the best products of its recent years. Created by Mike White, the series has achieved all kinds of awards, including several Emmys, and is one of the most followed shows on the entire Max platform.

You will laugh like never before

Each season of The White Lotus takes place in a luxury resort of the fictional chain of the same name, located in an exotic destination. But what begins as an ideal vacation for its guests soon turns into an exploration of power dynamics, internal conflicts, and dark secrets that emerge beneath the facade of perfection.

The first season is set in Hawaii, while the second takes place in Sicily. The third has been announced to occur in Thailand, which seems to be a formula that its creator will continue in the future. In both seasons, there is a mystery: a corpse appears at the beginning, and the rest of the season tries to uncover who it is and how this person ended up at the resort.

However, there is nothing sad or dramatic here. The series is a hilarious satire in every sense, where the egos of the protagonists are constantly tested while we witness the worst practices that the rich can carry out. In short, a delight for those earning a thousand dollars a month.

HBO and Max are very clear that they want to continue exploring the universe of Game of Thrones with spin-offs that expand the universe of Westeros created by George R.R. Martin, and the next one will be The Hedge Knight. Now, we have learned the date for which the series is scheduled: summer of 2025.

Although there is still no completely set date, having finished filming and planning next year’s release schedule, Max has already announced that we will be able to see The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms next summer. In this way, beyond Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, we will have a third series to delight in Martin’s vast universe.

A long journey through the Seven Kingdoms

Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones and one after House of the Dragon, in a period where the Targaryens still dominated the Iron Throne, the plot follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), a noble but inexperienced wandering knight, and his young squire, Egg, who is more than he seems: the future King Aegon V Targaryen. Adapting the novellas by George R.R. Martin, the series will explore the relationship between this unlikely duo as they travel through Westeros facing challenges, powerful enemies, and dangerous feats.

The cast includes Peter Claffey as Dunk and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, along with other actors such as Sam Spruell (Maekar Targaryen) and Bertie Carvel (Baelor Targaryen). The production, which completed filming in Northern Ireland in September 2024, will have a more intimate focus and less epic than other series in the franchise, allowing for a more detailed exploration of the cultures and landscapes of the Seven Kingdoms.

Despite being built slowly and with great care, the DC Studios universe that James Gunn and Peter Safran are creating couldn’t look better. Everything that has been released belonging to it is being a great success, from the recent The Penguin to Peacemaker, and next year’s Superman seems to be up to par.

But the acid test is now on Creature Commandos, an animated series about a group of monsters that form a team against evil, which will premiere on December 5th. The trailers and previews already predicted it would be a great success, but now it’s clearer than ever. The series has premiered with a 100% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 16 reviews. A success that clearly indicates the future of this universe.

After three seasons filled with mystery and horror, From has dropped a bombshell that has left its followers shocked: the true nature of the cursed town and its sinister inhabitants. And, evidently, here come the spoilers.

In the final episode of season 3, titled Revelation: Chapter 2, it is revealed that the nocturnal creatures terrorizing those trapped in the town are not just any monsters, but the former residents of the place, transformed after making a dark pact with an evil entity. The agreement promised them immortality in exchange for the sacrifice of their own children, an act that condemned their souls to an endless cycle of suffering and reincarnation.

The reality behind the cursed village

The key to this terrifying enigma lies with the murdered children, who try to guide characters like Tabitha and Jade to break the cycle. Through clues like the numbers on the bottles and a musical sequence, it is discovered that the sacrifices connect with the magical trees that allow teleportation. However, the ending doesn’t stop there: the appearance of the enigmatic Man in the Yellow Suit, who seems to be the entity behind the pact, changes the rules of the game. This being, capable of defying the laws of the place, causes an unexpected death and adds an even more disturbing layer to the story.

Although fans were expecting definitive answers, From has opted for an approach that resolves some mysteries while introducing new unknowns. With a fourth season confirmed for 2026 on Max, the debate and theories will continue to fuel the community as they wait to see how this nightmare unfolds in the upcoming episodes. Are we facing a new case of Lost? It seems not entirely… but it repeats some formulas that are too reminiscent of that series.

James Gunn has a very different perspective on the universe he is creating with DC Comics material compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the filmmaker explains, his main goal is to have very good scripts to gradually build his franchise and integrate the audience. And the first test of fire is with Creature Commandos.
